Biography

Picture
Liora is a Tribal Fusion and Middle Eastern Dance performer, instructor, writer, and costume designer in Austin, TX (formerly Atlanta, GA).  Liora began dancing at an early age by studying classical ballet and modern jazz.  After graduating from Emory University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics, she discovered belly dance through the Evening at Emory program with Isabel Crunk.  She then studied classical and modern Egyptian and Turkish belly dance with Diane Adams of Company Mezza, and ATS and world fusion with Zi'ah Ali of Awalim.  She was a founding member of Dance of the Fates (now Jahara Phoenix) with Oracle and Fatina, and later performed with dance partner, Fatina.  While based in Atlanta, Liora taught workshops in South Carolina, North Georgia, and Tennessee.

After earning her Masters in Creative Writing, Liora relocated to Austin, TX where she currently dances as a soloist, with the Typsy Gypsys, and has been a member of Hands of Fatima at Sherwood Forest Faire.  Liora also directs Mayura Blue, a dance troupe she formed to perform her choreographies taught in class.  Liora continues her education by taking workshops with as many bellydancers as she can--her favorites include Rachel Brice, Mardi Love, Mira Betz, Donna Mejia, and Tamalyn Dallal--as well as attending workshops in Polynesian, Bollywood, and Bhangra dance.  She is currently taking regular classes with April Rose.
